Viridis is a bright and vernal green. The series is an abstract response to the promise of spring with soft glimpses of trees and pathway through the gloom and grey fog of the COVID-19 lockdown. The bright and vernal greens are collaged on a base of poured and scraped paint. The soft browns and greys are spilt with bright turquoise blue and shiny fabric strips representing some light in the sky. Some hope as memories soften. Stitching is crossing and tangled contradicting any sense of depth and distance. Layers of found and recycled fabrics emphasise the horizontal and vertical nature of the path through the woods. Perspective of a foggy landscape is dimmed and distorted moving up a flat picture plane rather than any illusion of traditional space. The pictorial element of trees is picked out with hand stitching whilst also enhancing the surface with metallic shiny stitching.
